HIGHLIGHTS
It is told that during the last phase of Dwapar Period three sages named Syana Rishi, Dhyana Rishi and Sakt Rishi were meditating on Kailash Mountain. Sakt Rishi, holding a bag and a stick, moved away from there and reached a place called Nokhu Pani. The Rishi hit here with his Gaj and extracted water from the earth. Thus the place is called Nokhu Pani. Moving forward, in Muhal he met Savnis (Joginiees) and Ray Nag. Ray Nag presented him many types of divine power. The Rishi accepted him as his guru. Then he reached Nag Saur near village Katmori. He filled his kamandlu with water from here. Moving ahead from there he begged for food in village Kultha. The people gave him ‘Kulath Ki Modi’ (Parched grain of Kulath, a pulse). The Rishi was delighted and gave them a boon for bumper production of Kulath in the region. The place became famous as Kultha. Moving ahead from there, he reached a place called Nad behind Thantal village. The Rishi poured the water brought from Katmore there which resulted in a perpetual source of water. The Rishi moved towards Thantal. In Thantal he met local diety Lata i.e. lame. The Rishi requested Lata devata to hand over to him Chalta Raj and keep Baitha Raj with himself. Both of them were then established there. After securing his place in Thantal, the Rishi visited devi Ambika and received her pachi, blessings. The people at Thantal built a temple for him. The devata has ten mohras, five of ashtdhatu and five of silver. The main mohra is called shakt rishi. There is an inscription on one mohra.
